Winter is the most yin of the seasons and therefore the time to be less active, more reflective and contemplative. The longer held passive stretches of yin yoga create the perfect container for listening. As Ryan shares with you ancient and indigenous stories rich in wisdom and colour, Maryanne will guide you through the postures and assist you with hands on support.
Storytelling is a tradition that has been used in every ancient society and first nation people since the beginning of the human species. It is a vital part of who we are, and for good reason: A story is way of delving deep into the subconscious mind of the listener. In a story we hear of all the different archetypes of human experience, and in the picturing of the scenes being spoken through the lips of the storyteller, we create a stage in our subconscious mind for the different part of ourselves to perform, interact and eventually find resolution in a way that we may not consciously understand. The deepest that one can go in a story is to understand that every character being portrayed is another aspect of one’s very own self.
A story can share wisdom in a way that passes through the grasp of the conscious mind and affects and transforms us on a much deeper level. A story well-told pulls us apart and then puts us back together again in a way that makes us feel for whole.
The art of ancient story is no longer seen as a critical component of the human experience, and I believe that it still is – now more than ever we need the healing power and wisdom of ancient story.
