Matcha Latte

Matcha has been celebrated for its health benefits long before it started popping up in the local health food store. What is interesting about this particular health food is that not only is it filled with antioxidants, but it has been enjoyed traditionally in Japan for many teas. More than just for physical health, tea ceremony is enjoyed for relaxation and even an art form. How can you recreate the sacredness of matcha in your home?

Recipe

serves one

2 tsp. matcha 2 Tbsp. hot water (80C) 1 cup plant milk rice malt syrup to taste ice cubes if desired

method

Sift 2 tsp. matcha into a small bowl. Then add 2 Tbsp. of hot water. Whisk briskly until there is no lumps You can use a whisk, a frother, or even better, a chasen (the bamboo whisk used for Japanese tea ceremony).

For cool matcha lattepour matcha into a glass of ice cubes. If you have a milk frother, froth the milk with syrup until foamy, then add to the cup. Alternatively, you can place it in a jar with a lid and shake well until foamy. Sift a small amount of matcha over the top and serve!

For warm matcha latte heat milk on the stove, adding desired amount of sweetener (even if you don’t usually take much sweetener, do start with a little in this as match is quite bitter.) before the milk comes to a boil remove from the stove and follow the same steps as above.

Enjoy! x
