Join our special guest from overseas, Anders Asker and his knowledgeable annual workshops. This is an introduction to the amazing Rocket® Series, as developed by Larry Schultz, student of Pattabhi Jois who took Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga to the U.S.A.
Rocket 1 and Rocket 2 are modernised ways of practicing Ashtanga that’s more suited for lifestyles of the West.
You’re given techniques and tricks. Get to try arm balancing, handstands, multiple backbends and spinal twist. It’s all linked in a fast, healing flow that cleanses the nervous system, and prepares the practitioner for meditation, conscious breathing (pranayama) and deep relaxation.
Beginners as well as experienced yogis are in a playful manner given opportunity to grow and expand in their practice as they try some of the more advanced postures.
It’s important to clarify that we’re still practicing yoga, moving out of ambition and achievement, placing our intention in the breath, using the rhythmic ujjayi breathing to find the flow and enhance our self-respect.
Music and Mantras is also part of the practice. The breathing in itself is the music of Ashtanga yoga. Anders teaches with warmth and humour using his guitar and vocal to take the teachings beyond the practical/theoretical to reach into the heart.
Yoga has become a way of understanding myself and Further more, Realising my true self. When I was very young I bought a book titled Yoga. I hardly think I read it, Mainly looked at the pictures. Much later though, around age 28, I was Challenged by the Kundalini Yoga System in Which one solid static poses for a long time to burn off impurities. So, I got into that for quite sometime. That was 21 years ago and life has ceilings me through many different styles. The big change for me came with watching Yoga Zone Which lead me to a regular daily practice. And later When we met Larry Schultz and practiced Ashtanga Vinyasa and he showed us the Rocket Vinyasa sequencing, that’s the train I took for six years. On That journey I thought That I had the elixir of life. That I had found the secret and key to happiness, practice, practice and all is coming. And then Alan Finger jumped out of the TV screen and stepped into our yoga studio in Stockholm in real life, Bringing instrumental teaching and missing essentials That helps me to complete the picture and hand me the tools to scientifically convey the art and knowledge of Hatha Yoga , Tantra and Ayurveda.
Yoga is much more than teaching people how to breathe and to put their bodies in different Postures of alignment. But on the surface this is a big part of It; learning mudras and bandhas, pranayama and asana. The interesting part is what goes on on the subtle planes; That invisible work of transformation. If we learn the forms of the latter follows. Is not that great? So the road continues, or maybe we’re in a bigger boat now? I am grateful and touched by the opportunity to be in the company of such great teachers, and will hopefully ad my contribution in the spreading of this invincible tool for self-liberation and realisation in the auspicious times that we’re in. Bless you all. Namasté. / Anders Asker, Stockholm.
