Unit Title: Provide First Aid
Unit Code: HLTAID003
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid
response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to
provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and
The core elements to this unit include:
1. Respond to an emergency situation
2. Apply appropriate first aid procedures
3. Communicate details of the incident
4. Evaluate the incident and own performance
This unit of competence allows for a wide Range of Variables allowing for different work requirements, work practices and knowledge.
This qualification allows the recipient to become the “Nominated Workplace First Aider” under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011. In accordance with the Act, this qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of issuing.

✓ Considering the welfare of the casualty
✓ Infectious Disease and Hygiene
✓ Examination of the Casualty: monitoring of vital signs, and management of changes in the casualties physical
✓ Resuscitation: Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
FACE-TO-FACE PRACTICAL TRAINING: Participants then attend 6.5 hours Of face-to-face scenario-based training. Various scenarios are used to cover all the practical components and theory revision topics of the course.
Participants with a CURRENT first aid qualification are exempt from completing the pre-course learning module. Re:VIVA must receive a copy of their current certificate
1. Theory Assessment. 60 multiple choice questions.
2. Practical Assessment;
Resuscitation. Demonstrate competent resuscitation
techniques on a mannequin, Practical Scenario. Participants work in pairs, and demonstrate competent bandaging and slinging techniques in controlling bleeding and fracture management.
Certification Period: Although Statement of Attainments have no ‘expiry date,’ this qualification will require re-assessment every 3 years in accordance with the WHS Act 2012.
Annual CPR is recommended. For some industries,
annual CPR is compulsory.
