Our Advanced Yoga Teacher Training
With Idit Hefer-Tamir and Katie Manitsas
“Each one of us has the power to shift global consciousness into the mind of peace. Peace is about learning to transcend disharmony, disorder, disease, and despair by reaching for that inner flame, the irrevocable, incorruptible light that restores harmonic conditions in our cultures, communities, and in ourselves.” – Maya Tiwari
This Advanced Teacher Training with Katie Manitsas and Idit Hefer-Tamir is for teachers who are looking to elevate their teaching to a higher level through ongoing yogic studies, mentorship and connection with other teachers and the trainers themselves. Continue to be inspired on your teaching journey by immersing yourself in this module-based course that covers a variety of topics, spanning across many aspects of yoga.
For teachers who already hold a 200-hour teaching certificate or equivalent, on completion of this module-based course, you will graduate with an Advanced Teacher Training certificate accredited with Yoga Australia. Alternatively, these modules can be taken alone to accrue CPD points, or to deepen your understanding of a specific area. However when studying single modules, no qualification will be awarded on completion.
What makes this yoga teacher training course unique is the huge number of face to face contact hours and strong focus on nurturing personal relationships.
Katie and Idit have worked together for many years teaching yoga and developing a well-respected and popular teacher training program. We are excited to now extend that into an Advanced training. People who have studied with Katie and Idit often comment on how practical their trainings are – really giving you the confidence to go and out be a great teacher – as well as offering tools for developing your own spiritual practice. In addition to being very practical both Katie and Idit are down to earth teachers who have a heartfelt wish to inspire and nurture their students into being the best they can be. We will be invested in your success, growth and flourishing! Our intention in this training is to hold your hand and guide you deeper on your yogic path; a strong element of the course is that of mentoring as well as peer support. You will feel totally supported and nurtured throughout the training as well as being challenged to go deeper too. Finally, our trainings are perhaps best known for the sense of community they engage. We consider ourselves and our students to be part of a yogic family and we hope you will join our thriving community which is filled with love, enthusiasm, open-minded spirit, discipline and the tapas or burning desire to learn which fuels us all.

The Teachers
Katie Manitsas was the director of Jivamukti Yoga Sydney and is now the founder and director of Everyday Sadhana in Redfern. She is an advanced level Jivamukti Yoga Teacher and a Wise Earth Ayurveda master teacher. She is also qualified in Kundalini Yoga and as a doula (childbirth support person) and holds the highest possible accreditations with both Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia. She has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. Katie’s passion is in yogic philosophy and the seasonal practices of sadhana – bringing devotion and a sense of the sacred to everyday life, as well as compassion for animals and a deep reverence for nature. Katie is a published author of several books including ‘The Yoga of Birth’. She is the mother of four young boys and lives with her loud and busy family in Sydney’s Inner West.
Idit Hefer-Tamir is the founder of Sukha Mukha Yoga and the Director of Sukha Mukha Yoga teacher training (formerly known as Samadhi Yoga teacher training) was extremely influenced and inspired by Jasmine Tarkeshi from the Laughing Lotus Yoga Studio in NYC and San Francisco, Katie Manitsas from Samadhi Yoga Newtown and Sharon Gannon and David Life the co-founders of Jivamukti Yoga.
While living in NYC she stepped into the Laughing Lotus studio and fell in love with Yoga. Jasmine has reminded her of her dormant spirit and the power of transformation that resides inside of us all if we only dare to believe. Since then her life has never been the same. Inspired by how much Jasmine has changed her life for the better she was looking for a teacher training course with the hope that she will be able to help more people.
She arrived in Australia and the universe led her into Samadhi Yoga where she took her first teacher training course. Since then Samadhi has been a home to her and has helped her grow in her practice, her teachings and her life.
There is a famous saying; “Take your Yoga seriously but do not take yourself too seriously”. This is Idit’s approach to Yoga and to life. Take it seriously, commit to doing the best you can each and every day, but do not take yourself too seriously… “If you make up your mind to find joy within yourself, sooner or later you shall find it” / Paramahansa Yogananda. Join her on this journey of celebration and exploration.

Sequencing is the foundation of all good yoga classes. We will reflect on creating sequencing, built around a theme (such as the chakras for example) and where you might be stuck in a sequencing ‘rut’ or teaching on auto-pilot. We will also look at advanced alignment – how to teach difficult and advanced poses both safely and in relation to class themes.
YOGA FOR THE INDIVIDUAL
An individually tailored approach to teaching private yoga classes
with Katie Manitsas at Sukha Mukha Yoga in Bronte.
Date and Time: Thursday 3rd May: 8:00am - 5:30pm, Friday 4th May: 8:00am - 3:30pm & Saturday 5th May: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Learn how to work with students individually, drawing on the wisdom of ayurveda and one-to-one yoga. A private yoga class is a remarkable opportunity to help students deepen their practice, form positive habits and undo less supportive patterns that may have crept in. Teaching yoga to one person at a time can also be a great addition to your repertoire as a yoga teacher and when done well is very different to a group class. In this module we will explore some elements of ayurveda as a lens through which we can look at students as individuals, as well as self-practice and teaching of chanting (nada yoga), pranayama, meditation and sadhana (conscious spiritual practices) for one-to-one work.
SUSTAINABLE TEACHING
Personal practice and authentic voice in your Yogic life
with Idit Tamir at Sukha Mukha in Bronte.

We’ll explore the real nuts and bolts of what it means to be a teacher, how to manage your time, energy and draw from all the tools in your tool box to be the very best teacher you can be. We’ll look deeply into personal practice, as well as self care, sustainable teaching, pranayama and mudras. You’ll learn how to inspire, educate and support all your students; young and old, beginner to experienced.
SACRED SCRIPTURE
Effectively integrate yogic scripture and philosophy into your teaching
with Katie Manitsas at Sukha Mukha Yoga in Bronte.

Drawing on the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras, learn how to effectively integrate spiritual teachings of yoga into your classes naturally, without being too ‘out-there’ or ‘over-sharing’ your personal story. Learn philosophy of yoga in relation to daily life, mantra and chanting with Nada yoga (music). Explore what it means to be a spiritual activist and the path of the yogi in the modern world.
Mentoring block 1: Fridays at 1:30pm – 3:30pm with Idit: May 11, 18, 25 and June 1st, 8th and 15th
Mentoring block 2: Fridays at 1.30pm – 3.30pm with Jacqueline Cairelli: July 27th, August 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st
As part of the certificate, you will be required to complete two blocks of mentoring consisting of 6 x 2 hour sessions on Fridays. Mentoring sessions will offer a chance to spend time with your teachers (Jaki or Idit) and work on particular issues or questions in a more in-depth way. There will be an opportunity to post questions in advance for detailed exploration in the sessions. Idit’s sessions will mainly work on specific asana (‘asana lab’), Jaki’s on philosophy as well as covering any areas of further enquiry which arise from the module content.
Accreditation Information
In order to participate in this training, you must have completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training.
After completing the 200-hour Teacher Training (or equivalent course), our Advanced Teacher Training offers an additional 150 hours of study, giving you a total of 350 hours training.
All of the modules offered within the 350-hour training category are recognized Yoga Trainings that count towards attaining advanced Teacher Training certification with either Yoga Alliance or Yoga Australia.
Yoga Australia
Our advanced teacher training takes you to Level 1 with Yoga Australia. Yoga Australia have a minimum requirement of 350 hours for Level 1 teacher’s certification. This means if you are a 200 hour graduate you would not have been able to register with Yoga Australia. Once you have completed our advanced training you will have completed a total of 350 hours and this will enable you to register with Yoga Australia as a Level 1 Teacher. From that foundation, if you choose to, you can earn CPD points (Continuing Professional Development points), through doing other trainings with us or other recognised training bodies to work towards a Level 2 or Level 3 certification. There are also time requirements (Level 3 takes 10 years to achieve) all of which are outlined on the Yoga Australia website.
Yoga Alliance
Our advanced teacher training takes you towards 500 hour certification with Yoga Alliance.
Yoga Alliance have two levels of training, 200 hours and 500 hours. Once you have completed our advanced teacher training you will have 350 hours under your belt – towards the 500-hour accreditation. To gain a full 500-hour certification you can then if you choose to, undertake an additional 150 hours of study from other courses and workshops offered at Sukha Mukha Yoga or a certified outside school in your area of your choice.
We believe that ultimately good yoga teaching comes from experience, practice and positive intentions. The accreditation body that you choose and the level that you choose to work towards it totally up to you! Once you have a 200 hour training you are able to teach – so in some ways advanced training is more about personal and professional development than certification and pieces of paper. However, with this in mind, we are more than happy to help to explain the ins and outs of accreditation and if you have further questions don’t hesitate to contact us.
